Imagine ‘24 Weekend is coming!
This year we’re offering three distinct ways to engage with the arts fest:
1– a live gallery launch event at MW on Friday, February 23rd, starting @ 7pm
2– a series of learning opportunities at MW we’re calling “Saturday Sessions” on the afternoon of Saturday, February 24th, from 1-5pm (details below)
3– a chance to worship God together in an arts-infused way during MW’s regular morning service on Sunday, February 25th, @ 10:30am
Keep reading for aaaaaall the details!
Friday’s Gallery Launch:
This is the launch event for our Imagine ’24 arts gallery (hosted in MW’s atrium space), as well as an opportunity for live performances from some of the songwriters, authors, and dancers who are a part of our community (hosted in MW’s “Life Centre”). The event starts @ 7pm and is free of charge, but there will be a chance to purchase some light refreshments from MW’s Youth Group as part of their fundraising efforts for an upcoming missions trip. Come on out, enjoy the art, meet the artists, and feel free spread the word by sharing the event page linked here: Imagine ’24 LIVE GALLERY LAUNCH
Saturday Sessions:
This year, we’re trying something new as part of the arts fest: a series of opportunities to not only observe art, but to also participate in it. Whether you’re a complete neophyte who’s just wanting to get their feet wet in a new-to-you artform or someone who’s interested in peering over the shoulder of a fellow artist, there’s something here for the young, the old, and those who claim to be neither!
Below you’ll find a brief description of the sessions being offered, the times they’re being offered, whether or not there are any special requirements (like gear or cost), as well as a link to an event page for each. If you’re planning to attend any of these sessions, we ask that you please respond via the event page, or (if unable to do so) email mjolicoeur@mw.church with your intentions.
Intro To Breakdancing: with Terry Du (1pm)
Have you ever wanted to see if breakdancing was something you might enjoy? Then come on out and enjoy this intro to breakdancing class with a phenomenal teacher, Terry Du! If you’re over the age of 8 (and are willing to get down on the ground), then this class is for you. Please wear comfortable loose fitting clothing, but also clothing that won’t end up being inappropriate for high-speed / low-altitude dancing. To signal your interest or to pre-register for this event, please either click here or email mjolicoeur@mw.church.
“Have Your Cake”: A Cake Decorating Tutorial with Maggie Clifford (1pm & 2pm)
Would you like to learn how to express your creativity through something as practical and delicious as cake decoration? Then come learn from a pro! Maggie Clifford will walk you through a tutorial on basic decorating (trims, flowers, even writing), then give you an opportunity to try & decorate your own mini cake! There’s prep work required for this session, and so pre-registration is required (and there is a cap on attendance). Also, please note that there will be a $10 charge (cash-only) for this session, just to cover the cost of the materials. To signal your interest or to pre-register for these events, you can click here for the 1pm class, click here for the 2pm class, or email mjolicoeur@mw.church.
“Let’s Make Some (Hopefully Pleasant) Noise!”: A Tutorial on Audio Recording with Marc Jolicoeur (2pm)
Have you ever wanted to jot down an idea you might have for a song, but not known where to start? Have you wanted to experiment with music & sounds, but been intimidated with the process? Thanks to technology, it has never been easier to start with nothing and end up with something! Whether you have some experience or none whatsoever, you’re invited to this tutorial on how to use your computer to make some (hopefully pleasant) sounds! To signal your interest or to pre-register for this event, please either click here or email mjolicoeur@mw.church.
Musical Exploration (For All Who Like to Explore): A lesson in musical improv with Aaron Bartlett (3pm)
Welcome to the exciting world of music, where creativity knows no bounds and expression takes myriad forms. In this session, we delve into the depths of music as a profound art form and a captivating mode of composition. Through a blend of theoretical exploration, practical exercises, and musical play, participants will embark on a journey that celebrates the fusion of emotion, technique, and imagination. To signal your interest or to pre-register for this event, please either click here or email mjolicoeur@mw.church.
The Shape of Art: How-To-Do Solid Colour Block Collage with Leanne Prescott (3pm)
The Shape of Art is a lesson in translating the 3-dimensional world into 2-dimensional shapes, line, and colour, to make abstract art. In this session you will learn a simple artistic exercise to help develop your eye for shapes while you make your own collage. All materials will be provided, but there will be a $3 cost (cash only) to offset expenses. To signal your interest or to pre-register for this event, please either click here or email mjolicoeur@mw.church.
“What Is ‘Art’? And… Does Jesus Even Care About It?”: A Recorded Conversation with members of the Imagine Team (4pm)
Whenever this Imagine Arts Fest rolls around, the members of the leadership team are invited/forced to come to terms anew with questions like “What actually is ‘art’?” “How does it differ from or interact with ‘craftsmanship’? And… as a church, should we even bother talking about it? Does Jesus care about ‘art’?” If this is a topic that interests you in any way, you’re invited to be a part of the conversation! We’ll be hosting a live podcast recording at the tail end of Imagine’s Saturday Sessions. To signal your interest or to pre-register for this event, please either click here or email mjolicoeur@mw.church.
Sunday Morning Worship:
The hosts for this arts weekend (Moncton Wesleyan Church) have regular worship services on Sunday mornings @ 10:30am (both in-person and online), and this Sunday (February 25th) is no exception… though the service will end up being exceptional! With an intentional focus on using various artforms and an attempt to grapple with the theme from Imagine ‘24 (“What would Jesus ____?”), this service will be both encouraging & challenging.
